John Mellencamp gets it, do you?

Remember the excitement a week or two ago when Mellencamp sang for an Obama rally? People were sure his endorsement would help in Indiana, even using it as an opportunity to ridicule the Elton John concert, saying things like "How representative of America is Elton John anyway?" It was also reported here, with comments like:
that is frickin monstrous
John Cougar Mellencamp is basically Indiana.
He will be good for 2-4 points himself.
Wow!
Wow!
Well, it turns out Mellencamp is a DEMOCRAT, not a supporter of either Democratic candidate.
The Indy Star calls him "an equal opportunity rocker."
Mellencamp, who was inducted this year into the Rock Hall of Fame, will take the stage Saturday at The Lawn at White River State Park, 801 West Washington Street, according to a Clinton campaign release.
...
Last week, Mellencamp joined Obama in Evansville for a similar performance event.
Is there something we can take from this? Gosh, I hope so. Mellencamp gets it - what matters is November. We absolutely MUST win in November. Here on Daily Kos, and elsewhere in places like MyDD, people are sure their slice of the world is the whole world, AND THEY ARE WRONG.
No, Hillary Clinton is not the same thing as John McCain. She is not a Republican and she is not a racist. If she is the nominee, VOTE FOR HER IN NOVEMBER.
No, Barack Obama is not George McGovern redux. He is not an elitist, a Muslim, or even Jeremiah Wright. If he is the nominee, VOTE FOR HIM IN NOVEMBER.
Yes, I am a Clinton supporter, for the very simple reason that I believe she is the stronger November candidate (and no, I do not want to have that debate again here. If you want to have it, go here and enjoy yourself). If you feel Obama is stronger, by all means vote for him. Because November is all that matters. If you don't believe it, go to the tip jar and look at my sig line. It hasn't changed in months. If you have any more questions, go here and see what I wrote a long time ago about the Establishment Clause and the Supreme Court. But whoever you vote(d) for in the primaries, support and vote for the DEMOCRAT in November.
We can all take a lesson from John Mellencamp.
